Rua Santa Catarina

Rua Santa Catarina is the most important shopping area in Porto. This pedestrian-only street in the upper part of the city starts at Praça de Batalha, where you can see the Church of Santo Antônio dos Congregados.

Advancing along Santa Catarina, you will find Via Catarina Shopping, which is close to Mercado do Bolhão.

If you continue walking along the street, you can see a small church, but with a lot of charm. This is the Capela das Almas, covered with the blue tiles so typical of Portugal. The tour of Santa Catarina ends at Praça do Marquês de Pombal.

The entire Santa Catarina street is full of shops, street vendors, restaurants and cafes. A good idea is to stop for a drink at the famous Café Majestic.

The Majestic Cafe

It is an elegant café from the 1920s where you can feel part of the history of Porto. It opened on December 17, 1921 under the name Café Elite and became a meeting point for illustrious characters of the time and a source of inspiration for writers and artists.

Café Majestic do Porto remained abandoned for more than fifteen years, until the state declared it cultural heritage in 1983 and in 1994 it reopened its doors.
